Before starting your resin-bonded gravel driveway project, make sure you are wearing appropriate safety protection throughout the entire process.

Resin bound surfaces can be laid on top of existing tarmac or concrete drives, paths or walkways if the surface you are laying on is in good condition with no cracks.
You will need to ensure that edges protrude 15-20mm beyond the existing surface to allow room for the resin bound surface.
Resin bound driveways come in a wide range of colours, can have patterns created in them, long lasting and importantly, are permeable.
STEP 1: Under Surface
If you are starting from scratch you will need to decide on having a tarmac or concrete base. Concrete is more durable whereas tarmac helps permeability more.
For both tarmac and concrete bases you will require a 150mm sub-base which must be compacted and smoothed.
STEP 2: Base
Lay a minimum depth of:
- 75mm for tarmac.
- 125mm for concrete.
Ensure the base is smooth and level, as you would on a conventional concrete or tarmac driveway.
Once the base has set then you can begin to mix and lay your resin bound mixture.

STEP 3: Mixture
Briefly mix your aggregate in the forced action mixer before adding the resin.
Add kiln dried sand to help give a strong mixture. Make sure each batch of mixture is mixed for the same amount of time as colour changes can occur if there is a variation in mix times.
STEP 4: Laying the Surface
The resin should be laid to a minimum depth of 12mm, but this may be thicker depending on the type of material you are using.
Spread the mixture over the driveway with a rake and work it to ensure it is even all over. Use a float trowel to smooth the mixture. Make sure your trowel stays clean so that it smoothens the mixture as well as possible.
The driveway can be walked on after 4 hours, but leave for 24 hours before moving vehicles on the drive.
