Why choose a Resin-Bound Gravel Driveway?
“We approached New Driveway Company in at the end of a long and exhausting build. We were at a point where we were really fed up of people over promising and under delivering.
They did the (big) job incredibly quickly yet with an excellent finish and eye for detail. They were creative with ideas on quite a tricky layout (lots of slopes in different directions) and the result is really beautiful. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them as professionals who care a lot about their work and their reputation.”

RESIN BOUND DRIVEWAY TIPS & GUIDES
What’s the difference between Resin-Bound and Resin-Bonded Gravel Driveways?
First, let’s get clear on terminology. A lot of companies are offering ‘resin-bound’, ‘resin-bonded’ or just ‘resin drives’, without being clear on exactly what that means.
We find that clients are often confused, as many people use the terms interchangeably. However, there are important differences. Here’s our quick guide to what the terms ‘resin bound’ and ‘resin-bonded’ actually mean, so you can be sure you’re getting the best product at the best price.
Resin Drive, or Resin Driveway, is a term that simply describes the method of surfacing, where gravel is mixed with a special permeable resin to form an attractive, smooth surface that looks like a gravel drive but acts more like a tarmac driveway.
Resin Bonded is where the resin-coated gravel is placed on top of an existing non-permeable surface
Why you should avoid Resin-Bonded Driveways
A Resin-Bonded drive is where the resin and gravel surface is simply laid on top of the existing surface – usually an old concrete drive, tarmac drive or even a block-paved driveway.
This process is relatively cheap and quick to do, as there’s little or no preparation. However, there are some VERY serious downsides to resin-bonded drives, when laid on top of an old drive:
It’s only as good as the base it’s on
A resin bonded drive is literally bonded to the surface below it. That means any dips and problems with the angle of the existing drive will still be there afterwards.
It can crack and shift
If the original base is not fully stable, your beautiful new surface can soon develop cracks and dips.
It won’t be permeable
Most resin/gravel surfaces – if they’re done properly – will be permeable. However, if it’s laid on an old tarmac drive, water won’t pass through the base, so your resin-bonded drive won’t comply with SuDs regulations.
So if you’re looking for a stable, long-lasting, SuDs-compliant permeable resin drive, this is NOT the process you want. You should be looking at a resin-bound driveway.
