Maintenance Schedule Non Filled Artificial Grass
Non filled artificial grass surfaces will perform satisfactorily with only a minimum degree of maintenance beyond good housekeeping and provide good service for up to 20 Years.
Nomow installers normally instruct the client at the time of handover of the surface on the, maintenance requirements.
Regular maintenance
Cleaning
Under normal circumstances rainfall will keep the grass clean. However heavier contaminates can be brushed, wiped or hosed (low pressure) away.
Normal domestic or wild animal mess will not harm the surface but should be removed and washed away using water and if necessary mild detergents.
Brushing
Brushing with a stiff bristle in two directions at right angles one against the lay of the pile will invigorate the pile to retain its natural looks
Good housekeeping
It is important to be “house-proud” and the removal of leaves, twigs and any other debris should be carried out on a regular basis.
Weeds
In areas with existing weed infestation, weed treatment is a normal part of the installation process.
However an artificial surface and it’s perimeter areas can provide a growth medium for windblown seeds, moss and algae. Suitable control methods should be employed as necessary.
It is recommended that a trans-located herbicide e.g. round up containing glyphosate is used.
Maintenance Schedule Sand Filled Artificial Grass
Sand filled artificial grass surfaces will perform satisfactorily with only a minimum degree of maintenance beyond good housekeeping, but for a greater level of use and consistent playing characteristics, a higher degree of maintenance would be beneficial.
The following notes are intended as a guide to the maintenance regime for your Sand filled artificial surface:
Following the completion of your Sand filled pitch there are several factors, which may require attention on a regular basis in order for the playing surface to achieve its final playing standard.
These are as follows:
Sand compaction and consolidation
Even distribution of the Sand
Non slip properties
Sand compaction and consolidation
Full penetration of the Sand infill and its sub-sequent compaction occurs naturally through weathering and play especially after periods of continuous rainfall. If construction takes place through the summer months the carpet will “green up” very quickly exposing an excessive amount of grass blades. This situation requires immediate attention and should be brought to the attention of Nomow as soon as possible.
During the defects liability period for the pitch Nomow will return to site to apply further sand to the surface following the initial period of consolidation. Failure to notify Nomow, could invalidate any warranty offered on the completed surface.
Nomow will instruct the client at the time of handover of the surface on the, maintenance requirements for the high wear areas (i.e. penalty sports, short and long corners, base lines on tennis courts etc) which are the responsibility of the client / user to maintain after handover.
Even distribution of Sand
During the installation of the Sand filled surface every effort will be made by Nomow to ensure an even distribution of sand over and into the pitch area. Nomow will as a matter of course return to the project during the defects liability period and supply further quantities of sand and re-distribute the sand by brushing and cross brushing as necessary.
Experience has shown that increasing the frequency of brushing during the early weeks of use is beneficial and therefore the client and users are encouraged to carry out such operations in between any return visits to site by Nomow.
Non-slip properties
The final foothold on the surface will not be apparent until it has weathered sufficiently to remove the lubricant materials used in the manufacture of the lubricant materials used in the manufacture of the artificial grass. Any misgivings to the initial slipperiness in the wet should therefore be ignored.
Regular maintenance
Brushing
Brushing in two directions at right angles will be sufficient to maintain an even sand distribution over the pitch or court area. The frequency of brushing required will depend on the amount of use the area receives, but as a guide you should expect to brush a pitch at least one or twice a month, (possibly once a week during the initial setting down period).
For large areas a small tractor unit with approx 2.44m wide plastic bristle brush will suffice. Slight pressure should be applied to the brush to work the sand into the carpet pile.
For smaller areas or for working around pieces of equipment a 1.00m wide medium bristle broom brushing by hand will be adequate.
Good housekeeping
It is important to be “house-proud” and the removal of leaves, twigs and any other debris should be carried out on a regular basis.
Weeds
Although weed treatment is a normal part of the construction process the sand filled artificial surface can provide a potentially good growth medium for windblown seeds, moss and algae and suitable control methods should be employed on a regular basis.
An annual weed treatment is recommended with a trans-located herbicide e.g. round up containing glyphosate
