Sand Filled
Often shorter pile carpets and commonly used in sports. The pile of the grass is completely filled with silica sand. Very commonly referred to as ‘Astro Turf’ (The prominent brand name), the surface are hard and can be abrasive.
High use Multi Use Games Areas and tennis courts are often covered with sand filled grass and a common grass thickness is 24 mm.
Sand Dressed
A shorter pile carpets commonly used in sports. The pile of the grass is partly filled with silica sand. Sand dressed carpets are an up-graded version to sand filled grass and less abrasive. Sand dressed artificial grass can be used in play grounds under swing sets and are ideal under zip wires.
Non-Filled Monofilament Artificial Grass
Artificial grass with no rubber or sand infill. The most common Artificial Grass type used in play-grounds, pile heights range from 10 mm up to 50 mm, these products are often very hard wearing, soft, tactile and are designed to look like real grass. Non fill grass can now come in a range of colours, so bespoke graphics are available. Non fill grass is ideal for mounds and steep slopes.
Rubber and Cork Filled
Longer pile carpets 50 mm to 60 mm with rubber or cork infill. The Extreme product, is 50 mm with a 30 mm depth of rubber or cork infill. These filled long pile carpets are often classed as a 3G surface (third generation) and are normally found in sports pitches where Football and Rugby are the dominant sport. The Extreme system is used in sports but often around play equipment and in high wear areas in schools and public play areas.
Rubber filled Extreme uses an angular rubber which binds together in the base of the pile and is non mobile and doesn’t migrate.
Fill used in true sports applications 3G is designed to best mirror the characteristics of real turf it is rounded and moves around with play.
