STEP 1: Level Ground
Level off ground to a minimum of 150mm below the level of the finished driveway. The process is much the same as a standard block paving installation.
STEP 2: Sub-Base
Lay 60mm of sub-base and level and compact this with a wacker plate.
STEP 3: Lay Wire Mesh
Lay a wire mesh to cover the area of the driveway before securing the heating cables to the mesh with zip ties.
STEP 4: Finishing Touches
Lay 40-50mm of sand on top of the heating pipes and compact by hand. Blocks can now be laid as they would be on a conventional block pave job.
Concrete
STEP 1: Level Ground
Excavate base to a minimum of 90mm below the level of the finished driveway.
STEP 2: Sub-Base
Level off sub-grade before laying 30-40mm of sand or grit as the sub-base.
STEP 3: Lay Wire Mesh
Lay a reinforcement mesh over the sub-base before securing the heating pipes to the mesh with zip ties.
STEP 4: Finishing Touches
Lay sand on top of the pipes to a minimum of 10mm.
Lay concrete on top of the sand to a minimum of 50mm deep. The concrete mix must not contain any sharp stones as this can damage the heating system.
Smooth and level the concrete as on a conventional concrete job.
