Permeable block drive, Buckland, near Aylesbury

Callum Shinkwin is no stranger to a great drive – as a professional golfer he’s currently 119th in the PGA rankings and has won two European Tour competitions since 2020.

So when he and his wife Stephy (who is also a pro golfer) contacted us to extend and replace the driveway at their lovely home in Buckland, near Aylesbury, Oxfordshire, we admit to being a bit star-stuck.

Their old driveway was a little tired, and they wanted to extend it into the grassed area to the side of the house to allow more parking space.

During the design and planning session for their SuDS compliant permeable Block drive, it became clear that the old grassed area would need to be levelled up, so we agreed on new steps to that section of the house, as well as how we could retain the existing tree in the corner and incorporate the bespoke oak-framed carport. At that time, we also decided to widen the gateway to make access easier.

With the plans in place we set to work, first clearing the ground, then laying and compacting the permeable sub-base. They have heavy cars, but our exclusive StableBase system ensures that the new drive won’t sink, sag or puddle.

With the base and drainage in place, we laid the new driveway using Woburn graphite rumbled blocks with a matching block border and steps down to lower level.

Once the driveway was completed, we re-set the gateposts and fitted the new gates, setting the project off perfectly.

Callum and Stephy are really happy with the work we did. And after all, every pro golfer should have an impressive drive!
