Resin-Bound Wheelchair Accessible Paths, Coventry
Malcolm got in touch with us looking to improve the accessibility of his garden, an important task that would need to adhere to Malcolm’s specific needs, whilst also incorporating a garden room built by our sister-company, New Garden Room Company.
Because Malcolm wanted something really life-changing, his brief was very comprehensive, to say the least! He questioned the design at every stage to make sure we understood the key elements that made up the project with regards to the accessibility features, design and build.
Crucial to the laying of the resin-bound paths was the parallel wheelchair accessible ramps, allowing Malcolm to easily move from the house or garage to the new garden room. Malcolm uses the existing garage as a workshop, and a remote controlled aluminium roller door was installed to make wheelchair access that much easier.
Resin-bound gravel is an ideal surface or wheelchairs and other mobility devices, as it is smooth, even, provides grip and has no seams to trip or snag on. Resin-bound gravel is also designed to be completely permeable, discouraging pooling water or slippery ice from forming. The wheelchair ramps were made to accessibility specifications with a gradient of 1:15, perfect for Malcolm’s powered wheelchair.
This was a challenging build in a tight space, with a very high specification, but our team handled it brilliantly. Malcolm is delighted with the new pathways which make access around his garden easier than ever before.

“We had considered using slabs for the slopes in our garden, but the resin bound gravel is so much better – both for drainage and for my wheelchair. It’s even better than we thought it would be. The end result is extremely good and makes me more independent.”
